I have, It was good if you can put up with some unneccessary sex scenes. Other than that it was a really good movie!

The part with the old guy licking that girl was the worst part of the movie.....

For me? The movie started when they saw the ships getting trashed, and then I loved the part where the rhino's came, and the music was all...heavy techno? kind of? do people know what I'm talking about? such weirdly appropriate music. I think it was composed by John Williams.... no?

And MAN does Xerxes have a low voice! Crazy.
the movie? Alot of unnecessary nudity, not enough hobbits (A peaceful gardening folk)

still awesome though.

I gotta agree, the music for 300 was really good

I do have to say though that I thought the TRAILERS were the best part of 300. Man, I think those trailers were the best done I've seen so far better than Spiderman 3, better than anything I've seen before. Heck they were almost better than the movie itself.

Almost

Sparta's freakin' cool...

Too bad they bred themselves out of existence...

Well I didn't see 300 and probably won't but if you want a great action/violent movie without the unnecessary nudity then go see Pathfinder. It's awesome! I saw it with my dad today and it's just a good ole fashioned action movie with none of the stupid sex stuff. It's about the vikings arriving in North America back before Columbus...it's stinking cool. I hope other people see it...I recommend it.

But yea, It's Eomer basically slaughtering a bunch of Goliath Hagar the Horribles right? Man, I'm so pumped for it...

I hope it has a Rammstein-esque soundtrack as well... you think it would, metal heads love vikings and stuff...

PostSubject: Ahem   Movies Icon_minitimeThu Apr 19, 2007 7:34 pm

Ahem....

(And I quote)

"a new musical based on Spider-Man may soon be weaving a web over Broadway audiences.

A casting notice reveals that the musical, soon to be presented in an Equity 29-hour rehearsed reading, will be directed by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor, with music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge and a book by Taymor and Glen Berger.

The reading will also feature musical supervision by Teese Gohl. Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Martin McCallum, and Marvel Entertainment are the producers. Rehearsals will begin on July 2nd in New York City, while the readings will take place on July 12th and 13th.

Producers are casting for the title role of teen superhero Peter Parker, as well as his sweetheart Mary Jane, the powerful spider-woman Arachne, scientist Norman Osborn (whose villainous alter ego is the Green Goblin), Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson and a Geek Chorus, comprised of three teenage boys and one girl "who meet to ritualistically retell the greatest Spider-Man stories."

Created in 1962 and clad in his signature bewebbed blue and red, Spider-Man first appeared as a Marvel Comics superhero. The franchise has since spawned a TV series, syndicated newspaper comics and a blockbuster series of films directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. The third Spider-Man movie will be released on May 4th.

Taymor, who won a Tony Award for directing the Broadway musical The Lion King and who is also known for equally visually imaginative films such as Titus and Frida, helmed the recent Metropolitan Opera production of The Magic Flute, as well as productions such as Juan Darien, The Tempest, and Oedipus Rex."

Well, Pirates 3 will be the third third movie I've seen this month.

Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3 were both mildly dissapointing for me but hey

Third time's a charm

But seriously mateys....

I really do hope the scurvy infested knaves incharge of Pirates 3 pull it off. Pirates 2 wasn't all that great. Hopefully they figure out a way to buck the trend...

More worrying however is the fact that Hollywood has run out of all original thought...

Oi!

I saw P3. It was definitely better than the 2nd one but not quite as good as the first. It's interesting how the whole story comes full circle what with Jack and Barbossa being in more or less the same situation they were at the outset of the trilogy.

It was pretty obvious that Elizabeth and Will were going to be the next Davey Jones/Calypso.

The pirate lords part was pretty cool

Keith Richards made a good pirate.

Anyhow, good, but not as good as the first...

Alright Gents, a long overdue post.

Ok summer movies so far --> extremely mediocre.

Best: 300

Worst: PC3

Average: Spiderman3

300: Definitely not one for the kiddies. The nudity was annoying, but at least their was a point to it. As far as movie making goes, two out of the three scenes served their purpose well---to make you disgusted at the deception of Xerxes, and to add to the viewers understanding of emotional depth between the King and Queens. It was really clear in the first scene that exploited wealth and sex is really empty and awful. The other scene with the Oracle was less necessary.

As for the violence---it was extreme, but only slightly more so than the highly regarded (even in "Christian" circles) Saving Private Ryan. In fact I found it less brutal than Saving Private Ryan and many other popular violent films like it in which the violence is less fictionalized. The nature of the film creates a sort of Kill-Bill' esque feel. In Saving Private Ryan, The Passion of Christ, Braveheart, the opening scene of Gladiator, Schindlers List, American History X, etc.... I find the violence fairly upsetting. It seems somehow more profound, raw, and real. 300 made me feel like I was reading a great legend, one in which the violence was the side story to the valor. The Passion of Christ and American History X made me sick to my stomach, 300 made me want to lift weights. Nonetheless, yeah, it was probably the most violent movie I've ever scene.

As far as the dialogue goes, could have been better, could have been worse. I thought the acting was superb and Xerxes made one of the best villains on the big screen, ever. Here is a fun little something for you to wrap your mind around...Xerxes and Paulo from lost are the same actor......its true. Blew my mind. The cinematography was ground breaking, the fight sequences (so pretty much the whole movie) were extraordinary, and the visuals of the movie were in a word, sweet. The music was pretty flippin awesome as well.

PC3: Give me my 13 1/2 hours back. Oh my gosh. This film had a lot going for it. Depp, Rush, Nighy, Keira Knightly, amazing special effects, a really boring Pirates II focused entirely on this movie's set up......and thats all to say, this movie was a huge disappointment to me. Honestly. Depp was good, the others were fine, but I found myself just trying my hardest to care about anything that happened. I understood what was going on, but I probably spent more time thinking about how funny the office is and how I hope Mandi doesn't think this is a date than the movie. Honestly I would rather go watch She's the Man twice than this movie again.

Spiderman3: Ok lets be honest the acting was hilarious and the dialogue even worse, ridiculous plot holes and painfully bad scenes (oh crap I fell into this demolecularizer on accident). BUT, they had to stay true to the comics, and comics can pull of silly crap like that. With all that said, the movie was a lot of fun, and actually kind of emotional. A good movie? Definitely not, but without a doubt a fun one.

Haven't seen Shrek yet, anyone?

Skype me well talk about it.

PostSubject: Pirates 3   Movies Icon_minitimeMon Jun 04, 2007 3:09 pm

... *cough

So I saw Pirates 3 as well....and to be honest...

The lamest parts of the movie were the ones revolving around the pirates... which was disappointing (seeing as the entire movie revolves around pirates), but especially the Pirate Lords. What was up with that? We have one pirate that looks like memoirs of a geisha, another one that looks like whatshismask from V for Vendetta, and then finally.... one that was a freaking knight who says Ni! "We will go.... to Waaaaar...(WITH A HERRING)"

Keith Richards was the most awkwardly placed characters of the movie, who offered nothing new other than giving Sparrow a father (which took away from his "epic" nature, and also! What was with the whole split personality thing? They focused less on his quirky nature that people loved from the previous movies and now they just give him random.... others?)
"Instead of writing clever lines for him.... lets just make him every character that he ever needs to talk to!"

Aside from parts of the movie that made me laugh (at) There were some other parts that butchered some of my favorite parts of the last two movies. Particularly Davy Jones. He was my favorite ever since the first scene when you saw the Flying Dutchcman shoot out of the water in the second movie.... as he ominously walks up the deck and offers his spooky ultimatum. "Do you fear Death?...." Anyways, not only did this movie take any any prestige that this "master of the sea" carried in the second movie (by making him the East India Trading companies pet, thus proving him to be in fact the weakest of all the pirates? But we're still supposed to fear him? All because Mr. 4'6" gets all freaky deaky about shooting the heart and blah blah blah), but they also made a butchering of his awesome "do you fear death" speech from the second movie. In this one, anytime ANYONE is at gunpoint or at the end of a blade.... heck, even if someone was maybe a bit sad in this movie he would pop out his "Do you fear *sucking sound* death?"

(speaking of 4'6", did anyone else notice that he had the most epic death of any character from all 3 movies?? Even Sparrow being eaten by the Kraken wasn't as Epic as his slow motion 300 esque walk through the exploding ship, then his body landing in the floating flag with the silhouette of his crushed empire behind him? Yikes, I didn't realize he was THAT 'big' of a character, heh

On the note of Davey Jones... I don't think I even have to mention ANYTHING about the 80 foot Calypso that reminded me (personally) of a Gulliver's travels movie I saw in the 90's.

There were two redeeming factors for the movie for me however, one was Barbossa, who is by far my favorite Pirate. He does things right. The other was the fact that the ending had a very Empire Strikes back feeling to it in some parts for me because.... look at it this way:
The entire movie series has (as much as we might like to think it's Depp) revolved entirely around Will Turner and Elizabeth whatserface. Now their entire story has been a tragedy throughout! First she gets kidnapped, then she leaves him then goes for sparrow etc etc. Anyways by the end... He's doomed to fulfill his duty for eternity... heartless, and she can only see him once every 10 years! PWNED! What a downer for the both of them eh? I loved it, there was no corny happy ending to it, in a sense they 'got what they wanted' but it came with a harsh twist, which I thought was amazing. (Unfortunately, the movie had them turning on each other so many times, whether real or not, you kind of forgot that they actually loved each other).
The other ending quality that i loved was the fact that everyone went back to square one in the beginning. Jack doesn't have the Pearl, Barbossa is off with his crew to try to find some immortalizing treasure, (hmm... how will that end?), that old sideburns pirate is back in Tortuga with those two slapping... escorts? Square one, as the last thing we see of Sparrow is him in his little dingy boat. Everyone is where we love them to be at... (except the aforementioned lovers who are doomed to the eternity of love/despair that we saw in Davey Jones and Calypso).

Anyways, I liked the length to be honest... nowadays it's hard to watch a movie thats less than 3 hours long and consider it substantial. All because of Lord of the Rings eh?

I guess it's... just good business

Gotta say Jon, Great minds think alike, I pretty much agree with you on everything.

You gotta admit though Kieth Richards LOOKED Cool.

Anyhow the next big movies to go see on my list are: Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Evan Almighty, Die Hard 4, and Transformers.

Fantastic 4 2: Didn't see the first Fantastic 4 but this one's piqued my interest. The Silver Surfer is plain cool and the whole blending powers thing is one of my favorite parts of the comic book series. As long as they don't bring She-Hulk into the picture I'm cool with the franchise.

Evan Almighty: I'm interested to see what they do with this one. Bruce Almighty was more or less respectfully done and I'm trusting that this one will be aswell. Steve Carrell is hilarious and the idea of a modern day Noah is a pretty cool one. Perhaps some Sunday School Lessons in this one methinks?

Die Hard 4: *avoids rotten fruit* I know, I know, another lame sequel. But c'mon it's freakin' Bruce Willis! YEAH! Have you seen the trailer? Yes it's cheesy, yes it's COMPLETELY unrealistic, yes the plotline is mediocre. But may I ask you this: Where else can u see Bruce Willis "kill a helicopter with a car..." take on a F-35 combat jet with a semi AND keep the stupid mac guy from dying? Anyways I like the Die Hard movies and if you don't like it then "Yippee Ki-Yi-Yay...."

Transformers: Loved the TV show, Movie looks pretty darn awesome. Michael Bay's always impressed me as a director (just when you think the movie will tank it's actually not half bad...). And the CG looks really good. I'm interested to see what they do with it and I like the realistic look at a very unrealistic concept.

Just my 2 cents...
